Beetroot wine / Homemade beetroot wine





This beetroot wine recipe is perfect for beginners who wants to try one's hand at homemade wines.

Ingredients

Beetroot - 1 kg
Water - 2 1/2 liters
Lime - 1 no.
Sugar - 3/4 - 1 kg
Yeast - 1 tsp
Cloves - 8 nos.
Cinnamon - 2 pieces


Preparation

Peel the outer skin of beetroot. Grate beetroots using a grater. 

In a pan, add grated beetroot, water, lime peel, cloves, and cinnamon. Allow it to boil. When it comes to a boil, lower the flame, and cook for 20 minutes. Now, sieve this mixture using a strainer. Set the beetroot water aside. When the beetroot water is lukewarm to touch, add lime juice, yeast, and sugar. Stir well. When the sugar is dissolved, allow it to cool. Transfer this to a jar. Keep the jar undisturbed in a cool, dark place for 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, open the bottle, and pass the wine through a sieve. Beetroot wine is ready to use.

Virgin Kiwi Mojito




Virgin kiwi mojito is a quick pick me up for lazy days. It will leave your kids asking for more. So always double the portion while making it.

Ingredients

Ripe kiwi - 1/2

Mint leaves - 8 nos

Lime juice - 1 tsp

Club soda - 1/2 a can




Method

Muddle kiwi, mint leaves, lime juice and honey. Fill 1/4th of glass with ice cubes. Now pour club soda to top it. Garnish with kiwi slices, lemon slices or mint leaves as desired.

Apple, banana, and strawberry crush smoothie





A refreshing smoothie with the goodness of apple, bananas, mint leaves and yogurt.

Ingredients

Apple, peeled and chopped - 1
Ripe small bananas, chopped- 4
Yogurt/curd - 1 cup
Strawberry crush - 1/4 cup
Mint leaves chopped - 2 tsp

Method

Blend the ingredients in a blender. Serve chilled.

Ragi and dates drink/ Healthy finger millet and dates drink /ഹെൽത്തി റാഗി ഡേറ്റ്സ് ഡ്രിങ്ക്.





Ragi powder/Finger millet and dates drink

This drink cools the body and is perfect as a summer drink. Also it is rich in iron and calcium making it an excellent energy drink.

Ingredients

Ragi powder/Finger millet powder - 4 tbsp
Banana cut into pieces - 2 nos
Sugar - 1 tbsp
Milk powder - 2 tbsp
Dates, remove the seed and cut into pieces - 1 cup
Milk - 2 cups
Water - 2 cups



Method

Soak dates in to 1/2 cup of water for 30 minutes.

In a blender, blend soaked dates, banana pieces, sugar, milk powder and 1 cup of milk to a smooth paste. Set this aside.

In a saucepan, add 1 cup of milk along with 2 cups of water. Add ragi powder to this. Allow it to boil. Let it cool. Now add the smooth paste which is set aside. Mix well. Serve hot or cold.

ഡേറ്റ്സ് 1/ 2 കപ്പ് വെള്ളത്തിൽ 30  മിനിറ്റ് കുതിർത്തു വെക്കുക . ഒരു ബ്ലെൻഡറിൽ ഡേറ്റ്സ്, ബനാന, പഞ്ചസാര, മിൽക്പൗഡർ 1 കപ്പ് പാൽ ചേർത്തു  നല്ല പോലെ അടിക്കുക. ഒരു പാനിൽ ബാക്കി 1 കപ്പ് പാൽ , 2 കപ്പ് വെള്ളത്തിൽ റാഗി പൊടി ചേർത്ത് നന്നായി മിക്സ് ചെയ്തു . ഇതു നന്നായി  .തീളപ്പിക്കുക  ഇതു നന്നായി തണുക്കുമ്പോൾ അടിച്ചു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന

ഡേറ്റ്സ് ബനാന മിക്സ് ഇതിൽ ചേർത്ത് നന്നായി മിക്സ് ചെയ്തു സെർവ് ചെയുക .

ഡ്രിങ്കിന് കൂടുതൽ തിക്ക് ആയാൽ കുറച്ചു പാൽ കുടി മിക്സ് ചെയ്യുക . ഹെൽത്തി റാഗി ഡ്രിങ്ക് റെഡി.

Cold coffee / Coffee milkshake / Iced coffee



Beat the summer heat with this delicious chilled coffee.

Ingredients

Instant coffee powder - 1 tbsp
Cocoa powder - 1 tbsp+1 tsp
Cold Milk - 2 cups
Sugar as needed
Ice cubes
Vanilla essence
Icecream - optional




Method

In a bowl, add coffee powder, 1 tbsp cocoa powder and sugar. Pour 1/4 cup of warm water and mix well. Strain the mixture with a strainer. Add chilled milk. Using a blender, blend well. Add ice cubes to it. Transfer to a tall glass. Add one scoop of ice cream. Sprinkle little cocoa powder on the top and serve.

Fresh Pineapple juice / Homemade Pineapple juice recipe









Pineapple juice is a drink with lot of benefits. It contains vitaminC, betacarotene, copper and zinc. It is also rich in natural soluble  and insoluble fibres.  Fresh  pineapple juice provides our body with 75% of vitamin C for our daily requirements.


Ingredients


Pineapple chopped - 4 cups


Sugar - 4 tbsp or as needed


cumin powder- 1/4 tsp


Water as needed


Ice cubes






Method


Blend pineapple, sugar. cumin powder, with required water. Strain the juice . serve with ice cubes.

Raw green mango juice / Aam ka Panna





Raw mango juice is considered as an effective remedy for diarrhea, Piles, morning sickness, indigestion, and constipation. Drinking this juice in summer helps to prevent excessive lose of sodium chloride, and iron due to excessive sweating.

Ingredients

Raw mangoes- 2 nos

Water- 3 cups
Sugar -1/2 cup or as required
Cumin powder - 1/4 tsp
Chilled water as required.



Method

Peel the skin of the mangoes,  and cut it in to pieces.

In a pressure cooker, add the mango pieces, sugar and 3 cups of water. Cook for 2- 3 whistles. Allow them to cool.  In a blender, blend this  to a smooth paste. Pass this through a sieve. Now add cumin powder and required water and mix well. Add ice cubes and serve.

Pudina sambaram, Mint Sambaram



A perfect summer treat, help to cool and refresh  your body. with mint leaves, curd and light spices.


Ingredients

Curd - 2 cups
Pudina/ Mint leaves chopped- 1/2 cup
Ginger, chopped - 1/2 tsp
Pearl onion/ Small onion - 2 nos
Green chilli - 1 no
Cumin powder - a pinch
Chaat masala- a pinch
Salt as needed
Sugar - a pinch
Water as needed





Method

In a blender, grind ginger, pearl onion, green chilli, cumin powder, chaat masala, mint leaves salt and sugar. Add ground paste to whisked curd. Add required amounts of water, Garnish with mint leaves and serve.

Nadan sambaram/Morum vellam





A perfect thirst quencher for summer with buttermilk, ginger, curry leaves, green chilli, shallots and salt. This is also served during ela sadhyas.

Ingredients

Curd- 2 cups
Water - 2-3 cups
Ginger- a small piece
Curry leaves- 3 spring
Shallots/Kunjulli-3 nos
Green chilli- 2 nos
Salt as needed


Method

Using a mortar and pestle, crush ginger, green chilli, curry leaves and shallots. Set this aside.

Using a blender, blend curd with water. Add set aside crushed ingredients and salt . Pour into glasses and serve chilled.

Pottuvellari juice/ Blonde cucumber juice








Snap melon or blonde cucumbers are a gift by Mother Nature for summers. They help keep our body cool. Blonde cucumber snap open (as shown in the picture) on their own and are used to make pottuvellari juice.  Try blonde cucumber this summer. 

Ingredients

Pottuvellari/Blonde cucumber -  1 whole
Sugar - as required
Water - as required




Method

Wash and peel the skin of cucumber. Now mash the cucumber along with its seeds, sugar and water. Pour into glasses. Serve chilled.

Papaya milk sherbet







Ingredients

Ripe papaya - 1/2 of a papaya
Lime - 1
Sugar as needed
Cold milk- 1 cup
Cold water- 1 cup
Cardamom powder- 1 pinch



Method

Blend all the ingredients in a blender. Pour in glasses and serve.

Watermelon - 2 cups
Mint leaves - 2
Squeezed lemon - As needed



Method

Blend watermelon, mint leaves, and lemon juice in a blender. Pour into glasses and serve.

Weetabix fruit smoothie/Breakfast smoothie

Ingredients

Apple - 2 nos
Banana - 2 nos
Dates - 4
Peanuts - 1 tsp
Almonds - 1 tsp
Sesame seeds - 1 tsp
Weetabix/Oats - 2 slabs/1/2 cup
Cinnamon powder - 1/2 tsp


Method

In a blender, add 1 cup of water. To this, add apple, banana, dates, peanuts, almonds, sesame seeds, weetabix and cinnamon powder. Blend nicely. Serve this in glasses or jars.

Badam milk/Indian Almond milk/Badam paal Video recipe







Indian almond milk is made by grinding almonds and boiled with milk. It is believed that Indian version of almond milk provides strength to body and mind.

Ingredients


Almonds, soaked and skin removed  - 19 nos
Almonds, chopped - 3 nos.
Milk - 4 cups
Cardamom - 3 
Sugar - 1/4 cup
Saffron - 2 pinches
Cashew and pistachios for garnishing








Method

Grind cardamom and sugar to a fine powder.

Remove the skin of almonds. 

Grind skinless almonds into a paste. Add little water if necessary for grinding.

In a pan, add milk and boil. Once the milk is boiled, add almond paste, sugar-cardamom powder and saffron. Cook for 6-7 minutes on medium heat. Stir well. Switch off the stove. Garnish with cashews and pistachios.
